OOC INTRO + INTENSE EVENT PLOTTING

For new players, welcome to the game! And for current players, thanks for sticking around! This post will act as an ooc intro for new players, a CR meme for everyone, and a place to make some plans for our next event which will go live on June 12th. You're more than welcome to get a head start and make closed logs for your plotting.
Below you will see the CR meme form + the Intense Event in all of its entirety... besides a special RNG prompt that will appear on the actual event. Most of this event cannot be opted out of as it effects the whole town, but characters are welcome to seek refuge in their houses or the Church during this time which will be June 12th — 26th.

It starts with a ripple of panic amongst the townsfolk, the kind that hasn’t really been seen thus far by characters brought here to have their wishes fulfilled. The wolf transformations had been one kind of fear, but this is pure panic as news spreads from person to person: the Skeksis are coming. Characters will hear them bustling about in a panic and will further explain when asked, “We have to give everything they want to us. That is how it always has been. They’re arriving early. We don’t know why!” Immediately, the people of Somnius are rushing around, gathering things and placing them outside their doors - jewelry, food, coins, anything that seems to have any value whatsoever is left before they go back inside and lock the doors behind them. It soon becomes very clear why.
The Skeksis will appear out of the Labyrinth doors. Some will take flight and others will stay grounded, armed with weaponry and prepared for fighting. They fly down and gather the piles of offerings left for them, chattering to each other as they go, clearly making some kind of measure of the items they take. At first, their attention is not on the people that have been brought here, only on the familiar homes and businesses of the gelflings and goblins, but soon greedy eyes turn elsewhere. Characters who have items of value left near or around their homes will find Skeksis trying to steal them away, and they will fight back if there is an attempt to stop them! What is worse is they seem to have little concern for the life of the recently born hatchlings: one of the “prizes” they seem more concerned with taking is stealing the newly hatched dragons - anyone who is wandering around with their dragon or has the hatchling out in view will find a Skeksis tearing through the sky to try and take it. In fact, they’re pretty determined to find the dragons, as if this is the reason they are here.
They don’t stop with the dragons that have been born. Skeksis’ will also turn their attention to the eggs that did not hatch and will attempt to destroy the memorial shrine that was built for them without care or consideration. Characters can have their dragon captured, fight them (in secret) to get them back, or have the dragons captured and never returned. They can also hide their dragon to keep it safe. An area if safety is the catacombs beneath the Church which can be entered through the church’s entrance.
Fighting the Skeksis is possible - but they, and the gelflings and goblins, will not be happy about it! Townsfolk are more reticent about helping characters for this particular problem: they clearly do not want to have the Skeksis’ anger turn towards them and, if asked questions, will do their best to ignore characters: they’ll run and hide, scurry away, or lock themselves in their houses or shops. They are terrified of displeasing the Skeksis, who continue to take from them as though punishing them for any interaction with characters whatsoever.
After a few days of being terrorized by the Skeksis, and with the newcomers to the town apparently not doing their best to help soothe the situation, the townsfolk decide to put on a series of performances to perhaps tide over some of the anger and frustration that has been buzzing around since the first of the taxes were taken. Characters are asked to volunteer to take part in putting on a series of dramatic retelling of events from what is believed to be Somnius’ past, or little stories of the lives and careers of some of the most prominent townsfolk. Those who are less willing to volunteer may find some of the townsfolk desperate enough to try and convince them anyway with a little bit of improper magic: some characters may find themselves compelled or hypnotised into taking part against their will, ranging from brief hours of work to days of wanting to indulge in directing, producing or starring in one of these performances.

During the shows, it appears as though strange and wonderful events continue to happen: as the outsiders take on their roles, they slowly seem to adopt traits of the characters they’re playing. Are you playing an Orc character? Your skin might turn green, you might get taller, grow tusks… Are you playing a character of the opposite sex? Your body might slowly start to change to reflect that. Even the costumes seem to have a little too much power - dressing as a knight might make you begin to think you are one, and the same for the many other roles throughout the performances. This magic will wear off - like the compulsion, it’ll last a few hours or days at most - but the townsfolk will be very wary of giving any kind of explanation, just saying they need to appease the Skeksis with taxes and entertainment in order to make sure they’re able to continue to live in peace. The Skeksis seem delighted with these performances, especially by those who are transformed. After a performance, a character may find themselves at the hands of some flirtatious Skeksis who want to court them out on a date – or even lean in for a slimy smooch. The effects will last as little or as long as you like until June 26th.

Satisfied with the belongings, the Skeksis will head out in the middle of the month, returning into the Labyrinth. The townfolk will soon come out from their hiding places and begin to clean up any mess the Skeksis left behind – they’re big litterers!
However, something magical happens to those who have their dragon. Those who are fortunate enough will find that their dragon companion is especially clingy and needy. Once a character gets close enough to their dragon (who should be about the size of a large puppy, now) it will bump it’s head with your character’s and attempt to share a message – a memory that is true to Somnius’ past. Some messages will go through, some will not, but characters will know this is a piece of information that is true. When spoken about to townsfolk, they will disagree. The history books say nothing about an event like that! This will be an RNG Prompt with a 50/50 chance to receive a memory and will receive 1 of 3 memories.
Characters who do not have a dragon will get a message when they rest their heads for sleep. They will dream of one of these visions and are welcome to participate in the RNG prompt as well.

About Me: EDT, I work full time as an insurance agent, I tag mostly on weekends and occasionally on evenings. I just bought a house so things have been and may continue to be fairly slow as I hammer out IRL stuff. My hobbies include Marvel comics, Star Wars, D&D (including both playing myself and various actual play shows/podcasts), My Hero Academia, Stranger Things... so many... I am also your friendly neighborhood list mod!
Character Name: Portentia Poppyfield (if she likes you, then she'll let you call her Poppy)
Canon: D&D OC
Character Age: 16
General Info: Poppy is a half-halfling divination wizard, who is basically a D&D character before the start of their campaign. She was fated from before her birth to become one of her world's most preeminent seers, and so a local noble lord wrote up a contract with her parents that he would finance her magical education in exchange for her becoming his personal advisor upon her graduation. (Basically looking to get all of her oracular powers for himself.) She's a big old nerd who never had any friends before she got to Visium, and is basically treating this as a vacation away from the duties of her contract.
Housing Plans: Poppy lives in a cottage with Aurora, Jasmine, and Belle, aptly named Flower Cottage/Princess Cottage.
Desired CR: Other teens, mentor figures, adventurers who she can fangirl over, magic people she can talk shop with, nerds she can nerd out with!
Initial Plans: She still hasn't gotten around to getting a job, sob... She may put in a few hours here and there at Aurora's shop but for the most part she can either be found at school or at the library. She also just regained the rest of her magic, so she's become a whole lot more useful in a crisis!
Intense Event Plans: Poppy isn't a fan of dragons in general, but after the harsh reaction her anti-dragon PSA received last month, she's come around and understands that the people who have dragons do feel strongly about them, and that the dragons deserve a chance to
prove themselves not to be evilgrow up healthy and strong. So she won't make the first attack against the Skeksis, but she'll join in in defending someone's dragon if asked, or if anyone around her is in clear and present danger.I will also be having Poppy get roped into the circus and get changed into some other species, probably a half-orc just so she gets to be a tall green girl with tusks.
RP Wishlist: I would love to slow burn a ship, but right now Poppy is pretty anti-romance (just because her teenage classmates overdid it with the PDAs so she finds the whole concept revolting)... So anyone interested in shipping will have to be in it for the long game.

which is to say i'd love to have a Poppy thread. I don't think I'll have him change for the circus...maybe have him be nice and/or "I wanna see your cute face" handsome!Katsuki for a tiny bit of time, but still on the fence for it.

But him doing that is absolutely hysterical and i sort of do want this to happen a bit.

But re: the circus, Poppy will probably be reluctant to join but once the Doctor ropes her in, she'll get into it.

You know, I imagine Flonne close to her height. Anyway, I’m game for either IRS butt kicking OR… circus fun. Maybe Flonne can transform to a smol pixie or something.
“How the Orc was fooled by the Fae” idk.
