Shoto wasn't expecting that question, and while it's a question that he's sure some people who know heroism would ask, that just tells the story. However, he wasn't asked what the overarching sentiment of heroics was, the history of it or any other thing that he would have to be viscerally honest with-- his own family included.

He got asked what his definition is and that's what the semantics boil down to for him. "I don't think you can split a hair with a definition." Because that's a physical item and not a verb...al... item?

"I know how to define a hero, or that it could be a vague answer for other people, but you're asking me for my definition." It's important for him to clarify, or maybe it isn't, he isn't sure, but he has. "I only want to be the type of hero that provides comfort and reassurance when someone knows I'm there to help. That they can count on me doing my best to protect them and mitigate the situation." He chooses some candied fruit to settle on a napkin as his decision for that moment and seems to be going with it. "That still sounds selfish."

His eyes turn upward from the fruit again, "What about you? How do you define a hero?"
