And then the enemy... releases him, instead of finishing him while he's down. Another rush of relief, one she knows doesn't belong to Thor-
"Don't you know... what I've DONE?"
The familiarity of the words strikes her immediately. And the response-
"But what will you do now?"
That's- that's the wrong answer. That's not how it works. That, again, strikes her with an odd familiarity, but it's so wrong, so illogical that her mind recoils from it. It's not possible. And Thor seems to agree, as he picks his hammer to fight again- but again, the enemy refuses. Just as he did before. Just as he had all through the fight.
Why? Why would he let an enemy- a murderer, a man who threatened his family time and again, why would he simply let him live? Forgive him? For what? Familial sentiment?
There's a moment when she feels the remembered emotions from Thor and they're utterly antithetical to hers, when the dissonance is almost painful. Not the shame, or the rage, or the despair, but... hope. He believed it. He allowed the enemy to manipulate him. He wanted to believe it. She's not sure if she's disappointed or relieved. At least the battle hadn't killed him.
