[ Honestly, it's more than a little worrying, and he's been fighting the urge to do something stupid like try to wipe the tears off her face or give her a tissue or... something. It's uncharacteristic of Meryl to be in full-blown tears streaming down her face level of distress.

He may be ignorant of Roberto's fate, but even he wasn't, this kind of reaction feels too much for Meryl. So maybe it's with that concern and his concentration on keeping a watch on her body language that Meryl gets as far as she does with grappling his fingers. At first, he just looks confused. ]

What are you...—Aughk! OW!! Meryl what's your deal!? [ He jerks his hand back, half shaking it like one would do with something much smaller being clamped onto a part of your body. Once he's got control of his hand again (after a good little show of effort too!!), he pulls it in close to his chest. ]

Be careful with that, I've only got so many hands, you know... [ He exhales a half-exasperated laugh, rubbing his flesh and bone hand with his other, flexing his fingers a little.
