[ this is EXACTLY like being shoved by a cat who doesn't want kisses and toji can't help but grin faintly in amusement. he doesn't do anything else, just tightens his grip in direct proportion to megumi's struggles, and when the boy finally settles toji relaxes too. it unlocks another distant memory of trying to settle the kid for a nap, fussy and petulant and insisting there was more housework to be done and that he wasn't tired and that being tired definitely wasn't the reason he'd been angrily crying at spilling some water on the floor.
was it toji's fault megumi felt like he had to do all the dishes otherwise they wouldn't get done? yeah. did toji physically pin megumi down until boredom and exhaustion dragged the kid to sleep? also yeah. toji can't really explain his actions much, not back then and not now. he's always just done what he's had to, what he's able. every time he looked up there were more dishes. time always went by too slow and too fast.
but this isn't then, and even after megumi settles down he keeps talking, keeps prying, keeps asking questions. toji sighs. ]
Does it matter? You look damn pathetic. You want me to go?

[ toji makes no move to go anywhere. ]
