[Tayrey nods, taking the girl's assurances at face value. She's scrupulously honest and straightforward, and if she agrees fair contract it means that to her mind, no debt exists. Unlike most in the town, who don't seem to realise that unanswered favors create unspecified obligations!]

Very good. I'm fortunate; my commander's here now, but when you're used to the company of very many likeminded people and then you're suddenly taken from it? It can be rough. So I'm glad to hear you're managing well.

As for patrol? I start by the lake and do a full route through the inhabited areas, then out into the gardens, and back again. It's usually dull, but that's the way of these things. We do it so that we're there for the occasional times we're needed, and having a presence helps keep order planetside, I think. When I first got here, there were prehensile vines attacking people, and then there were the aggressive tax collectors. I'll resolve a situation if I can, and notify Captain Pryde or some of the others if it's a new development, or too big to handle alone.

All my patrols are like that. Well, the evening patrol usually ends at the tavern where I have dinner, but you might not- [Tayrey peers at her curiously.] Do you take watered wine? [She had, as a youngster invited to dine with more important people shipside, but she can hear Brannenford droning on about the health and morals of apprentices in her mind. So she's asking with caution.]
