[ For a long moment, Hermes is silent, glowing jade eyes lowered as he thinks it over. As he considers freedom, and wings, and the ability to be oneself. As he considers what it would be to wield power over someone.
He has authority, yes. But he has never abused it. He can scarcely imagine someone doing so. He has even shied away from taking on more authority—taking the seat of Fandaniel. What would it take for him to seize power? What would push him to stop vying for acceptance and aim instead to change the rules…?
He thinks of the Meteion. Of their mission. Of his desire to learn other ways, and to share them with mankind. ]
I believe, [ he finally says, quietly, ] that mankind can only prosper by seeking answers. Those answers—that knowledge—is power, and it must be examined. It must be known, even if that knowledge brings pain. It isn't right to turn away from it.
But I cannot imagine hoarding such power for oneself.
