[Venat nods, her smile brightening.] That is indeed a term used by some modern scholars, to describe either the aetherial sea or a component thereof. Whereas in my time we referred to it as the Underworld. The meaning is much the same, regardless of the name, however.

[For some time now, Venat has quietly wondered at how no other world seems to possess quite the same understanding of aether as Etheirys did and its modern forms still do. Her first, albeit not only, conclusion was that linguistic and philosophical differences must surely obscure the similarities. Now at last the evidence supports this.]

A shame that the direct connection to it has been lost, though understandable. A people on the star who possessed no ability to manipulate aether instead developed technology, including especially magiteknology, as a substitute. Had the circumstances fallen out correctly, they might well have gained sufficient power to suppress and ultimately extinguish aetherial manipulation.
