Agreed, or so it seems on the surface. Let's follow that line of logic.
The crystals are magic. They give us powers on a whim. In them exists this ability, among many others, handed out freely when it suits them.
The crystals take away these abilities afterwards. We don't keep them.
Why do you think that is? Why would we be given this for a simple game and nothing more when there's a grander goal to be fulfilled?
