TDM #9

Arrival / Enchanted Garden

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.

When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.

Will you drink it or not?

There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:

“Welcome to my LABYRINTH where your wish, you wish you wish youwishyouwish– Your CONTRACT is SEALED.”

You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Larkspur and Anemone You’ll soon find out that being around the Larkspur makes you almost overwhelmingly tired, to the point you might even feel sluggish and in desperate need of a comfy place to rest. Why not lie down right in the garden? Or better yet, find someone to snuggle up with and sleep your worries away. The only truly strange part? You don’t seem to dream. At all. Straying too close to the Anemones, meanwhile, grants an entirely different effect. One second you’ll be walking through the garden and then suddenly you’re twenty feet away and facing the wrong direction. Even worse, whatever those flowers have done to you will sometimes make it so you “glitch” through solid objects – your leg might suddenly be lodged in the ground despite it being perfectly solid a moment before, or your arm could be shoved halfway into a wall that… actually, was that wall even there before? Nevermind that. The effects only last for a few minutes at worst, so at least you’re not stuck there forever, right?

Liminal Spaces and Worn Out Faces

Thanks to the combined efforts of dreamers and dragons, Vaeros is asleep. No one knows for how long. The locals aren’t particularly pleased with this turn of events and the village is a mess, but at least the moon is high in the sky again and everything is back to normal… relatively speaking. Things start to change... morph into something more dreamy, more surreal. It's subtle at first but after a few days…

The aftermath of the overgrowth, animal attacks, and the overall chaos of Vaeros' tantrum has left the village a little worse for wear. While most of the damages are cosmetic and could be fixed by the local's efforts alone, maybe a little help would be appreciated? If nothing else, it might help alleviate a little bit of the tension still lingering in the air after the events at the castle.

That, and the locals seem to be acting kind of strange. Leaving them to their own devices might not be the best idea. The Gelfling you are aiding in repairing a half-broken wall has been hammering for what seems like hours and when you look to see what they're doing, they haven't actually made any progress - they're just hitting the same spot over and over again, potentially making the hole even bigger. Did the goblin you just passed have a completely blank face for a moment? Others might walk into things, off of things (Starlight Cliff might be a hazard zone), or suddenly and inexplicably become aggressive toward dreamers, grabbing anything they can get their hands on (kitchenware, vegetables, a goose??) to use as a weapon. It's a very bizarre scene and the villagers don't seem to notice there is anything wrong with the people around them.

It’s not just the locals either. The animals have been acting equally strange. There's a wolf inside the clothing shop trying on suits, a goat standing (or trying to stand) on its hind legs, bleating out random words like a town crier while jingling a bell around its neck to get everyone's attention. Where you should find the local baker, suddenly they're replaced with a deer holding a paddle in its mouth to stir up a batch of brownies.

To top it all off, there's an eerie sense of deja vu no matter where you go or what you do. Didn't you just help that goblin with the wheelbarrow an hour ago? So why is it halfway across town again? You could have sworn you had to go and grab groceries, but your pantry is full like someone already had.

Up is Down, In is Out

Days pass and the oddities continue to make themselves more and more apparent. The sidewalks seem uneven and wobbly at times, threatening to toss people walking across them to the ground or even fling them into the air with a sudden violent ripple. Walking through the forest sees the leaves of the trees melting into green goo that sticks to your clothes, your hair, and your skin - potentially staining them green and leaving you in dire need of a bath. You can always wash off in the lake, of course, but even that is not free of the strangeness occurring in Visium. The water of Lake Omen has turned to lava, at least in color; although there is no heat radiating from it when one approaches. That, and the locals are still fishing in it without issue, save the fact that they keep pulling up fish with tophats on.

Speaking of fish - they're raining from the sky now (tophats or not) in all sorts of different colors, shapes, and sizes. Good news! They're still edible. Bad news, they're probably trying to sell you something.

If you do decide to try the fish or any other meal in town, especially those served by the locals, you'll find that it doesn't taste like much of anything and most certainly doesn't fill you up, at least not at first. Everything is bland and unappealing until left in the presence of dreamers - and the more you share the meal with, the faster the taste returns.

Dream Within a Dream Within a Dream Within a Dream Within

Even with Vaeros asleep, only a small portion of the labyrinth is still accessible. Those that attempt to explore will find sections made up of pillows and cushions, and no matter what time of day it is elsewhere, this portion of the labyrinth seems to be stuck in perpetual twilight. Explorers will also immediately feel drowsy, then lulled to sleep by the quiet singing whispered through the air like a lullaby. Anyone brave enough to try and rescue those poor souls from their impromptu naps would be wise to plug their noses and cover their ears with earmuffs to block out the sound.

At night, dreamers dream. They will be visited by the same melody heard in the labyrinth, though it is distant. They will also hear a woman telling them to spend more time together, to bond and create things together in order to soothe the effects of Vaeros' magic growing wild in his dreams. Dreamers will also have the ability to visit other's dreams, meeting in a dreamy light liminal space that will not feel so real when they awaken.

OOC

Welcome to the [community profile] labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.

With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.

You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.

For TDM Try-Outs

[ Given that Vaeros has fallen asleep, Webby had assumed that would be a pause on the newcomers coming. But just to be sure, she’s come to check if there are any… and here they are! Is this a good thing or a bad thing? She’s not sure, but regardless, it’s time to help the newbies and make some friends.

So, is she still going to pop out of trees/bushes/flowers/underneath stone benches/etc to accidentally scare the bajeezus out of them? Yes. But this time, it’s not just a yell of an introduction-]

HI, THIS IS FOR YOU!

[ - it’s a yell with a gift, as she holds out a friendship bracelet. Welcome to Somnius? ]

I Love You A Lava

[ Webby has had experience with lava, because really, what doesn’t she have experience with at this point? She’d gone to the ocean to do some fishing, and pauses at the sight, tilting her head at the color and texture that the “water” now has. She inches closer, feeling no heat coming off it, but we all know that doesn’t mean it’s safe.

And we all know what happens when Webby gets that curious expression on her face. ]

… I … probably shouldn't go touching that.

[ So obviously she sounds like she really, really wants to.]

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These

[ GOOD DREAM CHOICE ]

[ Upon entering her dream, there’s a weird feeling of stepping into a storybook… or maybe a scrapbook? Instead of fluffy white clouds in the sky, there are photographs and crayon drawings of Webby’s friends and family, of her past adventures and future hopes – perhaps if you’ve known her a while, you’ll see your face in there! But there’s no time to dawdle, as a cardboard castle looms over in the distance, and there’s the sound of evil cackling filling the air.

Before the castle stands our young heroine, decked in her usual armor – but this time it’s a touch more fanciful, with a long pink cape and covered in glitter. She holds up her sword, addressing whatever villain is atop the playset. ]

Hand over the beautiful beloved princess, you sickening slimy sorceress!

[ There are two figures standing atop two of the cardboard towers. One is another young girl duck, casually scrolling through her phone but giving a little wave without looking up. “Hey, Pink.”

The other is the sorceress herself, who gives another traditionally evil laugh. “You may have bested my most wicked forces, Webbigail Vanderquack, but your amazing tales of adventurism end here! Now you shall deal with me, O Knight, and ALL THE POWERS OF HECK!” With that, there’s a poof of purple smoke, and the sorceress looks like a Claymation dragon, except she still has her duck head.

Webby looks a little nervous… but then a comforting hand touches her shoulder. “Aye, but she’s not alone! Clan McDuck always comes through for their own!”

There at her side is Scrooge McDuck, Huey Dewey and Louie, Donald and Della, Ms. Beakly, and so many others from her home world! Webby beams, and after Scrooge gives her an approving smile, they all head into the fray! And… if you were expecting an epic battle, you might be disappointed. The scene is blocked by cartoony cotton balls, with paper stars popping out of it every couple of seconds and sounds of battle cries and ouchies can be heard within. When it clears, the dragon is dead… kind of. She’s back in her original form with a sword in her chest, but instead of blood and guts, she looks more like a toy that was jabbed with a pencil, and there are even big X marks over her closed eyes with her tongue being lopsided.

Hurray, Princess Lena has been saved! Webby gleefully hugs her friend, who affectionally runs a hand through Webby’s hair. “Thanks for the save, Pink. I think you get the standard hero reward cliché in these kinds of situations.” Which means she tilts Webby’s beak up with a few fingers, leans in –

“A reward indeed, Webby!” Scrooge cheerfully declares, distracting Webby enough so that she turns away completely and Lena falls flat on her face. As Lena grumbles some choice words into the dirt, Scrooge kneels in front of Webby. “You’ve shown that you’ve got exactly what it takes to be a member of this family, and it’s high time we made that legal!” With that, he whips out a long piece of paper from nowhere that reads LEGAL ADOPTION with a bunch of gibberish beneath it. “From henceforth, you’re now an official member of the McDuck clan!”

Webby’s eyes widen, with hints of tears forming in her eyes, before she lunges at Scrooge with a big hug, laughing merrily. Everyone around them joins in with laughter and applause, with crayon flowers and sparkles popping up almost everywhere.

Whoever you are, be you good friend or stranger, you can’t help but sense you’ve witnessed Webby’s Greatest Wish Come True. ]

[ NIGHTMARE CHOICE]

[ There’s a distinct chill in the air as you walk down what appears to be an endless museum. Portraits, statues, and relics from Scrooge McDuck’s family and adventures are all over the place, and each one seems a bit alive in their own way, especially if you get closer to them. There are quiet footsteps, and up ahead is Webby, who is admiringly everything she sees. But… there’s a sense that something is wrong. She knows it, but she can’t put her finger on it. Why does it feel like all the museum pieces are glaring at her?

She comes across a portrait of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and happily walks up to it – but stops then they start talking.

“I dunno guys, it’s just… she’s a bit much, you know?”
“Why does she always have to take things so intensely?”
“Yeah, and it’s weird having an extra person, when it’s always been the three of us.”

Webby’s face falls, and she backs away, looking hurt – and in doing so, bumps into a copper statue of a Duckworth, the butler, who narrows his eyes at her. “Mister McDuck is not to be disturbed, especially for such… trivial matters.” ]

I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…!

[ Upset and frightened, Webby tries walking a little faster. But now it seems like all the historic pieces of the museum are alive, talking, and bitter. While they’re all saying different things, the general theme is the same.

YOU DON’T BELONG HERE.

Now in a desperate run, Webby goes as fast as she can until she spots someone else… but not you. No, there is Scrooge McDuck himself standing there under a spotlight. At first, Webby appears relieved to finally see a flesh and blood someone… until she sees his furious expression.

Until now, you have perhaps sensed that for all the wicked words the relics have said, they may not have been the truth. They might have been things Webby has been paranoid about, what she feels has been said but has never been spoken to her. What she has worried others feel deep down. But when Scrooge speaks? With his tone outraged, and his fist clenched, you know deep down, what he’s about to say is something he DID say to her – because she’s never been able to forget it.

“This is a family matter – and YOU’RE NOT FAMILY!

The words boom and echo, and Webby can’t stop the tears falling from her face. No matter where she turns, there’s no exit. Now all the portraits change to every failure she’s ever had in life, as if further proof she’s not a real McDuck. Maybe if you know her well, you can see your own memories with her reenacted in those portraits, only now twisted and dark, with your characters monstrously looking at her with contempt, ready to leave her behind.

Webby crumbles to her knees, holding her head, looking like the little girl she actually is. ]

I’m sorry! I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…

anachronology: (And my heart)

Zelda | The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | new player

a. arrival

[When Zelda opens her eyes, it's a shock. She hadn't expected -- this. Or much of anything, really, but especially not something as unfamiliar as this garden. Her hand goes to her necklace as she sits up, only ... no. Her Secret Stone is gone. Maybe that's to be expected, after what she had done.]

But I was...

[She trails off with a frown, glancing around at the flowers. Her other hand finds the satchel and digs through it, looking for answers. The paper looks promising at first, until she actually reads it and the crease between her eyebrows deepens.]

My contract? And whose labyrinth? [Zelda takes in the flowers with increasing bemusement.] This looks nothing like the labyrinths I've seen.

b. enchanted garden

This is ridiculous!

[Sorry, were you trying to go this way? So was Zelda - only she was actually a dozen meters down another path when she was abruptly zapped right in front of you, facing a wall which has rudely decided to keep the tassels of her dress inside their bricks. She huffs in frustration; this is the third time now.]

How does it keep doing this? [Zelda slaps a palm into the wall, which remains solid.] If it would only be consistent, I could -- [She turns around, then jumps at the sight of someone else right behind her.] Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't see you.

c. Liminal spaces

[This is such a strange place. Zelda has been trying to learn the layout of this town, but every few steps she's distracted by something odd, or a person who she could have sworn had passed by not two minutes ago. In fact, she had helped a woman pick up an overturned barrel of apples not long ago, only to find herself back in the same place now. And the apples are strewn on the ground again, somehow.]

Did it fall again? [Zelda brings up a smile and moves to pick up the apples once more.] That's all right, we can fix it -- w-wait!

[She jumps back awkwardly as the woman abruptly throws an apple right at her, narrowly missing her head.]

I didn't mean to upset you. I'll leave them alone -- [A yelp as another apple comes sailing over, bouncing off her shoulder.] -- ow.

[Some help would be wonderful.]

d. up is down, in is out

[Despite being helplessly lost and quietly desperate about what it means for her to be here instead of back in Hyrule, Zelda can't help it: she really, really wants to study this place. It's just fascinating, in a surreal way.

This is what finds her crouched on the shore of Lake Omen, even though her strapless dress is not the best for such things. She's holding a scrap of parchment and a quill, and diligently writing down her observations of the lake. She's also talking to herself, making her very obvious to anyone else visiting.]

It does appear to still be water, or at least something very similar. The colour and glow look similar to the lava flows around Death Mountain, but it isn't hot. [As if to reinforce this point to herself, she picks up a nearby stick and thrusts it into the lapping edge of the water.] Nothing burns or catches fire. Now, let's see...

[Zelda takes up the stick again and throws it into the water. The splash startles a fish into leaping up for a moment, and Zelda leans forward to peer at it. She then glances up at whoever is nearby.]

Excuse me - did you see a hat on that fish?

((OOC: Zelda is taken from the final memory in Tears of the Kingdom, so spoilers for the plot may happen!))

Princess Eilonwy of Llyr| Disney's The Black Cauldron| Current character/current player

[personal profile] waterfawn 2024-05-01 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[OOC- I can match tagging styles as needed! Italics in the prompts are the NPC's talking unless noted!]

01- Chore loops & weird books- Eilonwy's cottage and around town
[Eilonwy knows she's done her chores for the morning. At this point she's got it down to an almost science, and it's very rare she skips them or that she skips around in the order she does them in.

Which is why she can be found in the town center near the crystal, looking confused as she looks between a shopping list that's already been crossed out, and a basket that's already been filled with goods. "Wait, I was just coming here to shop." she mutters, glancing at the basket again. She sets it down for a moment and gingerly reaches out. The items- ingredients for lunch, mostly vegetables and some packs of spices to make a stew, feel normal. Her hand doesn't phase through reality itself or anything. But it may as well for as strange as things are feeling at the moment.

Maybe you'll also see her outside of her cottage, sitting in the front yard with a book. Much like the shopping trip, she's looking at it in plain confusion. The cover of the book is moving and shifting like it's on a roller coaster, the title changing from Somnius Legends to Oh wait, that's not what it is at all! to an unreadable combination of letters and numbers. Eilonwy's trying to read it, she really is, but she's also giving herself a headache. With a frustrated sigh she just puts the book down for the time being. After a second, she flips it over so that the changing cover doesn't help the growing headache get any worse.] How strange!

02- Should a deer even be baking?- Town bakery
[After all of that, Eilonwy later heads into the town. As the roads swing from feeling normal to bending and twisting as they feel lead, her steps are much slower and more steady. Things are weird, even for her, and she stops outside of the town bakery before she notices a deer as tall as any adult behind the counter, arranging a tray of cupcakes. The deer blinks as she comes in and bleats before clearing its throat and speaking in English: Welcome in! These are just out of the oven, would you like one?. It's said a little too fast, like they're very eager to make a sale.

But Eilonwy's hungry, so after some pleasant small talk, she buys one of the cakes for later. During her conversation, she shares that it's very difficult to walk in the woods, that keeping her balance can be hard, and other general commiserating on just being a deer, without saying that she can turn into one. The deer seems to pick up on what's not being said and enjoys the conversation, all things considered.

Once that purchase is done, she sits at a table in the shop, has a bite of the cake and.. Just frowns in confusion. She studies it for a minute like Eilonwy's never seen cake in her life, and has a second bite. It's bland. It's so bland that she may as well be pantomiming eating. The cake is sat down onto the table and the deer perks up calling out, "You enjoy yourself, Miss Eilonwy! That's one of our most popular flavors for the season, lemon and lavender!". Eilonwy flashes a polite smile in return, but doesn't have a third helping.]

03- The night is young and so am I- Fish with hats at the harbor
[Okay, so the food is bland. It's odd. It's not uncommon- some food in Prydain could be very one note, but this wasn't the same at all. At least one could still taste something. As Eilonwy walks to the harbor, she watches as the fishermen call out orders to each other and haul in fish. Nothing weird there, until she notices all of the fish have hats and look.. Fine with it? There's no panic at suddenly having a different thing on their heads, and the fishermen don't seem to notice or mind either.] What in the world?

[A fishmonger Gelfling gets her attention with a wave.] "Ah, Eilonwy! Hello! Come to see what we've caught? It's a nice haul, I think. You give us a few minutes and then I'll get things set up if you're wantin' anything specific!"

What is today even? Eilonwy doesn't know, but she's getting through it as best that she can.]

04.01- Dream walking- The hours take no notice
[Flowers- various types, some that look like they shouldn't be growing in the same area, but that are easily, that's what she sees first. As grass brushes against her legs, Eilonwy looks around slowly as she realizes she knows the area- it's one of the fields in Llyr, at the height of spring. The sun is shining, there's bird song, and it's calm in general. Eilonwy smiles and takes a seat, simply enjoying things feeling normal for a while. She exhales a bit shakily and laughs. She hadn't expected to see the fields again any time soon.]

04.02- Adventures in the Labyrinth-- (Closed to Loki)
As Eilonwy approached the labyrinth she noticed that it was open for exploring, as if the last month hadn't happened. That stops her short, as she'd expected it to be closed. Loki had received a quick message of: "Hail Loki! Would you like to explore the labyrinth? It's open, which is surprising. But if Vaeros is asleep then it seems like as good of a time as any to explore.- Eilonwy" before Eilonwy took a breath and waited. Going in by herself was a fool's errand, and she could wait.

Odd, though, that where she'd expected dirt and rocks, there was dimmed light spilling from the entrance.

Somnius has never been the most normal place, but even so, things have gotten weird since Vaeros was put to sleep, and the Moon came back. Case in point, goat in suit. She'd be more curious if not for the fact it was also trying to gore her.

"Whoa, Nelly!" She has to step back quickly, throwing her hands up in a defensive posture, slipping them into dragonform as well for the added defense. She doesnt want to hurt this...fellow? Fortunately a stranger's intervention manages to hold it back in time. Or...not a stranger at all.

Lowering her arms at the sound of struggle, Corrin manages to catch sight of familiar features. "...Hibiki? Is that you?" First Kaito, now Hibiki. Reunions all around.

Well, that can wait. For the moment, Corrin turns her attention to the goat.

"Yeah, listen to her. I'm sorry I got in your way." She's not at all certain that's what happened, but it might calm his Temper. "Let's just...all calm down and talk this through, yeah? You seem like a reasonable, uh, gentleman."

And she's... currently poised above a lake of lava with an expression on her face like she's seriously considering dipping her toes in it. Dito scoffs as he approaches.]

You know what happens when you fall in lava? I've seen it firsthand. You don't die quick, that's for sure. The heat scorches your lungs and causes your organs to fail. All the water and blood in your body would turn to steam. You'd basically boil to death from the inside out, like a cooked lobster.

[He pauses.]

You should totally go for it.

Puck/"Owen Burnette"| Disney's Gargoyles| Current player/current character

[personal profile] justdontgiveame 2024-05-01 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[OOC- Like Eilonwy I can match writing styles/tense as needed! Italics are the NPCs speaking in prompts unless noted!]

01- Every day can be cake day with the right mindset- loop in town
[It's not bedlam, but it is chaos, and Puck isn't that surprised honestly. Going against any kind of ruler rarely ever results in things being smooth. Thinking back to some of Oberon's fits, he frowns as he heads into the town properly after waking up. The network had looked normal, but the area as a whole wasn't. Puck had tested his magic and found it working fine, so that's a comfort. As Puck floats in the air, a goblin merchant is calling: "Fresh baked goods! Come try our new flavors!"

...But then the goblin repeats themselves as if following a very short script. Puck watches as villagers approach to buy things, and the sale does happen, but it's like it's been badly edited in. It snaps from the merchant calling for their wares to a gelfling or another goblin walking away with a cake or brownie, excitedly chattering about how they can't wait to try it. Puck is tired, but he knows he's not at exhausted levels. The goblin merchant continues their calling, unaware of everything.

Puck quickly helps himself out of the area.]

02- Tavern meals
[Sticking to the air out of safety more than anything else, Puck stops at the tavern later for a quick meal. It's normal- a plate of roast meat and vegetables. Homey, but not bad looking at all. The meal is paid for, Puck has a bite of the vegetables and physically winces before he realizes something-] Wait, this.. I'm only tasting heat?

[Sure enough, the food is hot and freshly cooked, but there's no flavor even though Puck can see seasoning on all of the food. He chews and swallows his mouthfull, and has some more, to confirm. The confirmation is instant. Again, the food tastes hot like it's out of the oven, but there's no flavor to it. The fork is sat down and he sighs, sitting back in the chair and thinking before he remarks out loud;] Second weird thing today, I see we're going for a personal best.

03- The labyrinth- The sound and the rhythm disappear
[Bland food is nothing new to Puck- he's been to enough business meetings, he's had food that's been good enough to nearly cry over and food that would be better left alone. But as a fellow hedonist who loves a good meal as much as he loves experiences, the tavern lunch had been a disappointment. Another flight around again to get a look at everything was on order when Puck found himself outside of the labyrinth.. and saw that it was wide open. With a frown, he approached, landed softly, and cupped his chin in thought.] This is nothing but a red flag, but.. [But really, what's one more in Puck's life? He gave a shrug, checked that his Oracle is on him (it was!) and headed inside.

It's not what he was expecting at all. There were hallways but they seemed.. calmer? The usual tense anxiety of adventure wasn't hitting Puck like it usually did. He kept walking and noticed a few things a bit too late: 1. Twilight was in the area, which was a surprise because there should have been an empty expanse where the sky was taking up space.

2. The singing had been sleep magic. Which had explained his slower than usual movements the further he went into the labyrinth itself, along with the drowsiness that he couldn't shake off. His eyes closed and Puck collapsed, landing on some of the pillows in the area. ]

04- Dream walking- Home or something like it
Puck's dream is an odd mix of things- There's a large forest covered by night, the howl of various animals carrying easily. There are also three women in the area, enjoying a walk. But they'll change forms based on who's looking at them, but their clothes will remain the same except for a specific form. If your character sees them as adults, they're all wearing white and silver gowns but they take the form of human women, anthropomorphic animals of your choice, or simply as beings formed of pure light. Maybe they take the form of gargoyles, wings folded over their shoulders like shawls. If your character sees them as teenagers or children, they're wearing matching school uniforms, in dark colors, and look like they would be at home in any school.

No matter what form your character sees them as, the sisters will make philosophical conversation on the nature of time, revenge, and human lifespans. What's odd is that they seem to have ESP. The black haired one, Selene, is Vengeance, the silver haired one is Fate, and the gold haired one is Grace. When one is finishing a sentence, the other seems to know what the next question is that's going to be asked.

Puck is surprised at a few things- it looks like Avalon as a whole. The night forest, even seeing some more of Oberon's Children, Fate calling a cheerful "Hello, Puck. How goes your story?" before moving on. Puck floats in the air, taking everything in. It does look like Avalon, except that towards the middle where Oberon's castle should be, there's the Eyrie Building from Manhattan, lights on and active as usual. Instead of the parking area near the front entrance, there's a section of Central Park, where a jogger is doing laps without a care in the world. He'll stop occasionally to remark in the vein of: "Huh, that looks new!" or "Weird, did they just move the park? No, that's dumb." as well as make small talk. He's an average human, just out to get his exercise in.

Puck pinches himself and winces as it hurts. "Okay.. This isn't real, but it's not a nightmare, either." With a laugh, he checks himself over- he's still in his true form. No business suit, no pull of magic as he transforms into Owen. With a satisfied nod, he flies off to see how else his two homes have mashed together.

(ooc- I'm fine with game spoilers!)

[Puck has dream walked before, actually, and it's part of his powers as a fae. But this specific version is different-- normally Puck has to wait until he goes lucid, and even then there's extra work around making sure a dream doesn't collapse. This is no different than going for a walk in real life. He steps into Maruki's dream and blinks as he looks around an office. A doctor? Puck quickly scans the bookcase and just gets nothing to work with as the letters turn into scribbling, then shift and move at random. No clues there, then.]

Appointment? I didn't know I had one.

[Maruki looks like the top example for overworked, but Puck's not going to be rude. He's overworked himself a few times, it's the nature of any kind of job. He walks to one of the sofas and takes a seat, eying the table of snacks and drinks.]

But.. since I'm here, I suppose it would be rude to just leave. Who are you?

[Garden]

[In all honest, Lucy can barely remember what she wished for. Something simple - yearning for the past maybe, as she laid her head down to sleep. Sounds of the Wasteland keeping her alert until she fell asleep.

What she wakes up to is unlike anything she's ever seen - both in her Vault and out in the Wasteland. A beautiful land coated in all kinds of flowers. She staggers upright, almost stepping on the gold potion that was gifted to her. She quickly reaches for her gun - only nothing's there.]

What - what is this? ... Hello? Is anyone out there?

[Liminal Spaces]

[The first thing Lucy sees isn't a busted up town, but a very well-constructed village. Only uh, she's noticing some things that are off about this place already. Namely, there's a person trying to hammer a window.]

Excuse me, sir? I need some help figuring out where I am? And oh! I don't think you should be hammering-

[CRACK! The window shatters immediately]

... a window.

Um, is there anyone else here who can help me?

[Dream]

[What the heck? Lucy finds herself stepping on a pillow covered floor and steps back. Well, it's soft... how bad could this place be? And is that singing? She almost goes to find the source, but a wave of tiredness overcomes her.]

I guess a little nap wouldn't hurt...

[And she lays down, and immediately goes to sleep. Those who enter Lucy's dream, will find themselves in a vast desert, with destroy buildings all around them. There's the sound of skittering nearby...]

Aiden Emberlance / original / new character

arrival/garden
"Weird." The large beast of a man said, mouth full of bread while he looked over the parchment. "I don't remember signing a contract." A pause. He shrugged, then tossed the parchment back in his satchel and resumed walking, absently meandering through a handful of Anemone.

Suddenly, he was a few feet away, arm jammed into a large rock with him hunched down toward the ground. Aiden whined, realizing which hand had been stuck and making sure his priorities were straight. "My bread..." :(

liminal spaces
He might not have had his super cool magical abilities, but as a born and bred farm boy, Aiden didn't need magic to be able to clear heavier debris from around the village.

He was currently holding a large wooden beam in place for a bear standing on its hind legs with a hardhat on, nodding as it looked over a piece of parchment with scribbles on it. Aiden had been there, no joke, about 45 minutes at this point, only now beginning to sweat while he waited for some sort of direction from the bear who just kept looking at Aiden, looking at the parchment, and then nodding.

Help him.

up is down
"Ow!" Aiden grunted as a neon green fish smacked him directly in the face while looking up at the sky. It looked almost... wrong. Not the fish, he didn't care about that. But the small patch of blue sky above him seemed just a little off - more purple than blue, and the clouds looked almost blocky.

"Did you see that?" He did not specify which aspect of the weird world he was talking about, of course.

Misa Almassy|Star Wars Legends OC

[personal profile] sensitiveapple 2024-05-01 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I. Garden

Misa doesn't recognize either plant, but she swiftly comes to the conclusion that working in the enchanted garden isn't going to work. Frustrated, she tries to leave, but the larkspur is insidious and keeps turning her around! ARGH! Stumbling across someone, she glances at them. "Are you new here?" She asks, gently.

II. Liminal Spaces

Oddities are the way of life as a healer, but Misa has seen the same three gelflings, and two goblins, five times over one shift. Also, her Force healing isn't working on the local populace.

Frustrating.

Not only that, but her lothcat's food keeps disappearing. She knows she just bought some the other day to keep him from eating the mail mice. Kriff, what's going on?

III. Up is down, in is out

She's resorted to her own cooking. Despite wanting a domestic droid, she hasn't asked for one yet. This is getting ridiculous though. She'd stopped by the tavern that she favors, and the food had been horrific. She doesn't know why, but she's not questioning it.

So, she's humming in her own kitchen and feels someone coming to the door.

Walking over, she wipes her hands. "Can I help you?"

IV. Dream a dream

A. CW: Death

Around her is the council. They stand witness to a thing that they've no wish to. Her own Master, Master Terrik stands, his arms folded in front of him, next to her. His voice is odd squeaking and not at all English, but the words can be understood. "You can abdicate. No one -"

"I cannot." Misa says, watching toward the doorway where they will bring the prisoner from. "He was a friend, Master Terrik. I want to bring him peace."

There's a sigh from him and several around her that can hear her. A woman who looks like the same species as Vol'tha steps forward and puts a hand on Misa's shoulder. "No one expects -"

"He's the reason Jedi are dead, that my patients are dead." She says, fiercely, though she's younger by a few years. A thin braid wraps around her hairstyle, landing on her forehead. "I will not allow anyone to bring him peace but me."

The person is brought into the room in shackles and an odd pulsating collar. The guards remove both, handing him the black cylinder in their hand. "So. You aren't going to be a coward?" The young man sneers at her. "I've always been the better duelist, Misa."

Misa steps into the center of the room, her saber held in her hand, unignited, and watches him. "Hyron, I accuse you of betraying the Order to the Sith." Misa says, her voice strong, and unwavering.

He ignites his red saber and the fight is on. They clash together, the two sabers whining, softly. She can feel his kyber crystal cry out in pain, and it saddens her that this bright, funny boy has fallen.

The fight continues. Her saber work is impressive, but his is better. She knows that she could die today, and that a Sith could go free. But then, she twists and stabs her saber through his chest, causing him to drop the saber, the blade disappearing. She catches him as he falls, dropping her own saber. "Hyron, I can -"

"No. This is how it must be." He whispers, slowly dying. "I will never return to that which stole everything from me. Thank you, for allowing me to die...." He whispers with his last breath.

B.

The gardens at the temple on Tython are wild, only semi-restrained, and a favorite of Misa. She walks through the flowers, heading for her favorite pond to meditate some. She finds it occupied today and isn't surprised to see Master Terrik meditating next to it. Instead of interfering, she settles next to her Master and simply closes her eyes to meditate with him.

"Come." He says, after a fell few hours of meditation. "Let us work on your saber work." He holds out a hand for her.

What follows is both instruction and sparring. She eventually is pushed into the pond. Sitting up, sputtering, she dashes water out of her face. "What was that for?!" She demands, standing up, soaking wet.

"Problems, Padawan?" Terrik says dryly. "You appear to be wet..."

She stares at her Master and starts giggling, until it becomes a full belly laugh.

i. liminal spaces

[In the aftermath of Vaeros’ tantrum, Subaru had no hesitations about helping to rebuild. He has a decent relationship with the villagers, one that’s neither too distant or too familiar. Missing the residents of Arlam village, he felt it worth deepening his bonds.]

…But, man, is it me or is everyone acting really weird today?

[Around him are gelfling and goblin alike, hard at work. Only…it doesn’t seem that they’re doing much of anything. Next to him, a gelfling hammers in place a plank of wood, over and over…]

Hey, that’s probably enough-

[He reaches to their hand, to still it, but even as he pulls them away they continue to hammer.]

Seriously?! You’ll take someone’s eye out with that!

[- and now he’s full on grappling with the gelfling, making a whole scene. And still, it continues to hammer away.]

[Snow covers the landscape. In this dream, there is nothing else.

At least, that’s as it seems.

Amidst the swirling flurries, a figure comes into view. Blue hair, a maid’s outfit. She seems to be walking away.

Enter: Subaru, running to catch up with her.]

Rem! Wait, Rem!

[He calls out desperately to the wind, which whisks her away just as easily as it brought her into view.

Standing in place, the snow under Subaru’s feet grows a deep crimson colour, bleeding out to the rest of the environment.]

…ah.

[What comes next? He knows his dreams. He doesn’t want anyone else to see it.]

This is really bad. [He glances around. There’s nothing but the horizon.] We’ve got to get out of here.

Hibiki doesn't immediately register that the person this goat(?) man(??) is trying to play hoofcuffs with is someone she knows. In situations like this, she's used to slipping into the middle-man role, dangerous as it is. Her focus needs to be centered on what's going on and how she can deescalate.

Hearing her name, she pokes her head out from over the goat's shoulder to see a familiar face. Blinking a few times, she slips on a sheepish grin. "Yep, that's me. Hey, Corrin!" She says brightly before adjusting her hold.

"Okay, so, I don't know what the deal is here, but I know this person. She wouldn't go after somebody unless they threatened her or her friends. Now, you didn't do anything like that, did you?" She asks, firmly. The goat shakes his head, bleating an apology before Hibiki loosens her grip. The goat takes that as his cue to go, and breaking away from her hold, runs away on all fours.

Exhaling deeply, her frustration beginning to melt away, her lips curl into a pleasant smile.

"Hey there, long time no see."

Any attempts to counter or contain the song seem unusually ineffectual- the song just doesn't respond to his efforts. If he persists too long, he may even find that the song suddenly become sharp, harsh, and dissonant for a moment, enough so to inflict extreme discomfort and leave him with a bitch of a headache.

And even more so someone who would lend it to him.]

…I believe so. [He checks his arms, smooths down his front. His fingers catch a small nick on his clothing. There is no blood.] The only victim is my clothes, it seems.

[He looks back up, over to the one that saved him. Still gripping that gelfling, though he elects to ignore that for the moment.]

1. A walk on the bright side. -
[ Go for a walk they say, it'll be nice they say. Now look at her, 20 feet in the air, upside down at a strange angle and unable to really move. If she takes a step forward she just moves through the air as if walking on ground.

That shouldn't happen. And she can't SEE anything!

Great... So much for relaxing in the garden.

[ She's grumbling out loud, to no one in particular because she can't tell if anyone's nearby unless they're particularly noisy. ]
2. BayCliffwatch -
[ Guess who gets the unenviable job of setting up camp near starfall cliff and making sure idiots don't wander off of it? That's right. This girl.

She's got a makeshift rock tent and bench set up nearby, a camp that might look deceptively inviting to casually joining her, if only because she's so bored. Every time someone wanders too close to the cliff, the earth literally turns beneath their feet to face them towards the safer side.

Toph lets out a huff nearby.
]

Don't suppose you want to take over? [ She calls out, not entirely serious, but... the offer's there. ]
3. Nightmares -CW: Forced Blindness
[ Regardless of your abilities or vision before, entering Toph's dream is like stepping through a different dimension. There's nothing. No sight, only a void that the mind might rationalize as darkness. She doesn't dream in colour or image after all, so there's nothing for you to see when you enter it either.

There is, however, sound and touch, so much more important to her sense of the world than any one elses. Even other dreamers that visit can borrow a bit of the way she feels things. The vague shape of objects nearby start to become clear the longer they wait and feel, and sounds feel so much more direct. Like a very basic tremorsense, welcome to Toph's world.

You're in a metal corridor, its warm, too warm maybe, and there's a shaky sense of unease about the place, a thrum of machinery and clangs of metal on metal in the distance as other humanoid shapes through the walls run from place to place. A smaller shape rushes past you nearby, breathing heavily as she breaks through a section of metal wall so thick it really shouldn't crumple so easily. Barely noticing at first before there's a pause and...

full of green (up is down, in is out)

Kaiba's exhausted after that dungeon run. All he wants is for life to return to relative normalcy. Weird locals, fixing up the town, all that fun stuff. But of course it gets a little too weird.

After a long day of repairing the library, he decides to head out to the woods for a training session. He jogs through the twisting forest, hitting low branches and being dripped on by sludge. By the time he reaches a clearing, his hair, hands, and outfit have turned green and slightly sticky. Ugh.

The clearing is the lake, and he walks closer as if to jump in and scrub, but...the water is lava. And yet there are still people fishing here. He hesitantly extends a stick toward the lava, watching as it...doesn't burn. It doesn't feel hot around the perimeter either.

"...Nope. It's a trap," he grumbles, while looking like some kind of seaweed monster as he's hunched over and dripping green.

dream within

Foolishly, he ends up creeping forward to the Labyrinth to investigate. With Vaeros under, what else could be happening there? It seemed to be almost a core of his power...would there be clues they could use?

He steps into the labyrinth, eying the change in decor to the soft and sleepy, and his limbs immediately feel heavy. Maybe he can rest for a moment...

The sky shimmers a strange shade of orange. Fish fall from strange brown and furry clouds, leaving Kaiba to stare up in wonder. He's eventually bonked in the shoulder by something...a dragon's snout? It's a majestic blue creature, all sharp angles and proud stature. He knows her, loves her.

He takes the invitation for a ride, elated with the joy of taking flight, and down below, more shimmering blue dragons offer rides to any visitors. Just try to avoid catching the fish, they tend to blather on obnoxiously about laws of physics and things.

Kaiba wasn't the only one who'd been caught by the changed labyrinth. Puck was somewhere in it asleep but dreaming and moving freely between his own dream and others, stopping in wherever he wanted to. Hovering in the air and trying to figure out if the clouds look more like raccoons or cats, Puck sees a dragon soar overhead suddenly and notices a familiar figure.

Apparently though, the fish in the water are really wanting a conversation and before they can get much farther beyond- "Have I told you my theory on gravity yet?", Puck has caught a ride on another blue dragon and directs her to fly close to Kaiba, calling out-

"Do you always ride dragons? You're making it look easy!"
