It is. You're looking at things as though the 'grass is greener on the other side' so to speak. That what you assume automatically to be 'family' defined in a specific way, is better than whatever you had. The counter is that it depends on how you define 'family' and whether that is or is not indeed better or just different.

'Family' as you put it, often comes with strings attached. Some you place there yourself, many that are placed there for you whether you want them or not. They come with expectations and pressures--again some willingly taken on, many not. There is no guarantee that members of a 'family' as you're implying you envision it love each other, or like each other. You might find it comforting, to have ties and attachments. Another might find it stifling and feel too confined.
